Simplicity is key

Church fundraising

· Jimbo Blogs

I recall back to when I was a representative for our Church congregation in Nadera, Fiji. Our parish had only just completed the building of our new Church and part of the funds had to be raised by parish members. As I recollect, although a daunting task, it was always mighty fun and very entertaining with families, adults, children and toddlers gathering sharing a common goal arranging activities, fetes and big festivals to lighten the burden of paying back the joys of celebrating service in our newly built Church.

The challenges from stalls, the games played by children and most of all the delicious Fijian delicacies and food cooked in an underground oven with hot stones, the whole area would be scented with roast pork, beef, fish and many more, you name a dish and someone will be selling it in their stall, you just had to be quick or you'll definitely miss out.

I thought to share this occasion as it also became a significant moment in the continued 'dream' for 'JIMBO's'. One particular item we sold at these functions and in all honesty we made over 200% profit, yep! You heard that right 200%. I think you've guessed it, yes indeed, it was ICE CREAM! We purchased from 'Tip Top Ice Cream' factory several 5 liter boxes of different flavours and sold them scooped into cones, 20c for a single scoop, 40c for double and 50c for triple. Initially when we started, I was hoping to at least gain a 50% profit....Boy boy oh boy, how wrong was I and due to selling ice cream, our sector won several times lifting the trophy for raising the most amount of funds....Thanks again to Ice Cream.
